St. Xavier University
The School of Nursing provides a 4 year program of classes that leads up to a Bachelor of Science within Nursing to pre-licensure, licensed practical nurse, as well as nurse students who are registered. This program was created to assist students in gathering the needed knowledge, flexibility, and skills to get an entry-level nursing job and to give top-notch health care in a variety of situations. This course of study is available to freshmen as well as transferees who satisfy University enrollment standards.

- The priority admission deadline for new freshmen is the 1st of May.
- You can take the nursing classes two times a year.
- Enrollment is offered on a full as well as part-time basis.
- It takes 55 credit hours to complete the nursing major.
- 127 credit hours are the prerequisite for matriculation.
- Classes stress the art and science of nursing.
- Small group discussions, seminars, lectures and clinical work are used in the curriculum.
- Courses involve diverse clinical experiences, practices, and health care systems.
- Mentoring classes give students the chance to create an educational community partnership with a faculty person and a small group of fellow nursing students.
LPN-BSN Option
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's) can earn a Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree conveniently and quickly. Following this they are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing. Started in 1991, the LPN-BSN program alternative was the very first of its kind offered in the state of Illinois.

Admission Eligibility for Advance LPN-BSN Option:
Students must qualify for the undergraduate nursing courses and show proof of:
- Being a graduate of an NLNAC authorized program or an accepted program from the State Department of Professional Regulation
- Have a license to work as an LPN
- A minimum of a 2.75 GPA out of a 4.0
RN-BSN Option
Students who are licensed registered nurses are accepted in the RN-BSN Completion Course to obtain a nursing baccalaureate degree. This program is specially made for adults with multiple commitments.
- Eight week classes are available two times weekly at our Orland Park Campus
- Nursing courses could be finished in 18 months
- Clinical experiences are separately planned to collaborate with the faculty
- Nursing classes can be taken while finishing general education and support classes
- 30 SH of progressive placement in nursing given without exam
Choices to be credited for previous learning are available
As well as partnerships, double admission deals have been started with Saint Xavier University and the community colleges around it. Completion of these programs results in an Associate in Applied Science degree and will help nursing graduates to easily transition into the RN or BSN option at Saint Xavier University. Moraine Valley Community College, Joliet Junior College and Prairie State College are the colleges involved.
PLUS Program
The PLUS Program was created to build the retention, performance, and completion of undergraduate nursing students. These components include tracking and assessing all nursing students every semester, giving academic and psychosocial support for the related nursing courses, as well as stimulating active involvement by students for their learning.
The PLUS Plan is made up of one credit hour learning classes available with certain nursing classes starting in the first semester of the nursing curriculum.
Certificate in Nursing Education
This certificate program of nursing education is specifically designed to ready experienced nurses with the skills and knowledge that are needed to teach in both classroom and clinical settings. Within this program, there are 9 semester hours consisting of three classes in graduate level studies. All classes are instructed within ten-week blocks, with a blend of in-class and web-based lessons.
The practicum portion of the coursework allows students to gain valuable experience working alongside a full-time faculty member.
Note: The requirement for entering the Certificate of Nursing Education Program is a Master of Science in Nursing, enrollment in Saint Xavier University MSN degree program, or master's degree in related field. The MSN degree or Master of Science in Nursing is requisite for being an educator in school or medical environments.
Clinical Nurse Leader
The CNL program is a master's degree plan of coursework that is based on the requirements established in the AACN (American Association of Colleges of Nursing Working Paper on the Job of a Clinical Nurse Leader - Rewritten June 2004).
The CNL graduate is ready to work in medical leadership positions in virtually any healthcare environment. In this position, one is accountable for medical care for a set number of patients in a clinical environment. The CNL is responsible for creating, applying and assessing patient care plans, employing information obtained through research.
Family Nurse Practitioner Program (FNP)
The Family Nurse Practitioner Program readies professional nurses to specialize in the delivery of primary care services to persons and families in a diverse group of settings. Promotion of health and wellness along with common and more involved health issues are covered in the program. Upon graduation, students qualify to complete the Family Nurse Practitioner test and become certified.
MSN/MBA Program
The Master of Science in Nursing as well as Master of Business Administration joint Master Degree Program combines the strong points of the two schools in Saint Xavier University. These are the Graham School of Management and the School of Nursing. The MSN/MBA program is tailored to suit people whose goal is attaining a position of middle/senior management at a hospital or community health care organization. The coursework is composed of a blend of master's degree requisites in nursing as well as business.
