Nursing Certificate
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) take care of the ill, hurt, home-bound, and handicapped under the supervision of doctors and registered nurses.
- offer routine beside care
- test vital signs like temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and breathing
- get needles ready and administer injections plus give enemas
- keep an eye on catheters and IVs, put on dressings and take care of bedsores
- notice their patient's behavior and make a report of side effects to medicines or treatments
- gather samples for testing
- do regular lab exams
- give patients food
- keep a record of how much food and liquids are taken in and eliminated
- help with baths, putting clothes on, as well as individual cleansing

Long-Term Care - Given the long-term care needs of a population that is rapidly aging, and the growth in need of health care services generally, it is expected that the need for LPNs will continue to expand at least as quickly as average for all occupations through 2014.
Hospitals - LPN jobs in the hospitals are predicted to continue decreasing.
Home Health Care - Jobs for LPNs are intended to increase more quickly than they usually do in home health care services.
The Practical Nursing program at Miami-Jacobs College has been approved conditionally by the Ohio Board of Nursing. The standard level of approval for all of the new Nursing programs is Conditional Approval.
