Since its founding in 1911, Baker College has grown to a student population of more than 38,000 on multiple Michigan campuses.

One option you have if you'll be attending Baker College is to live in one of the residence halls. There are student dormitories on the Flint, Muskegon, and Owosso campuses of Baker College. You can apply to a residence hall on campus if you are a full-time Baker College student who qualifies for the basic housing requirements. Because housing assignments are made in order of application, it is in your best interest to submit your application and preferences as early as possible.

Certificates: Practical Nurse

LPN's or Licensed Practical Nurses are important members of the health team who provide bedside care for those who are ill, injured and convalescent.

You will do the following with this approved curriculum:

  • Master medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Cultivate the attitudes, knowledge, and skills vital to being a successful professional nurse through participatory, active, and culturally-diverse education.
  • Learn to think critically and solve problems, while understanding the moral, ethical and cultural aspects that you must deal with constantly in the health care system.
  • Be eligible to take the NCLEX PN licensing exam upon graduation. This is a standard exam devised by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Criminals, drug addicts, and alcoholics may be refused LPN licensing by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

Post-Registered Nurse Certificate: Perioperative Nurse (Post RN)

A Perioperative Registered Nurse is a critical part of the surgical team whose job is to assess, plan and deliver personalized care to maintain and restore the psychological and physical functioning of surgical patients at various levels of dependency.

As part of this program, students will:

  • Cultivate the management and communication skills in order to perform as a circulating nurse, including how to manage the complete care of patients in the operating room and maintain an appropriate medical environment.
  • Be instructed on how to get the operating room ready, and establish a connection between the surgical group and various parts of the hospital.
  • Learn how to respond effectively to the surgical team by anticipating the members' needs.

Associate Degree in Nursing

The profession of nursing involves caring and healing, focusing on the patient's psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being.

With this curriculum, you will:

  • Learn the basics of nursing, human anatomy and physiology, psychology, and a holistic view of the human machine.
  • Gain the knowledge, attitudes, and the entire gamut of nursing skills required to practice professional nursing through dynamic, hands-on, and culturally diverse classroom lectures and in clinical settings.
  • Learn skills in critical thinking and problem solving within the context of moral and ethical values that are at the forefront of health care today.
  • Once you complete the Associate Degree in Nursing Program you are eligible to sit for the licensure exam to complete the necessary requirements to be a registered nurse.
