Many career changers find new life as nurses. Sometimes it is the older men and women that opt to make a career change, and sometimes it is the young people. Many nurses once had careers in other fields. Many nursing assistants go to nursing school to become LPNs and RNs. Many LPNs jump on the career ladder and become RNs. There are also a good number of nurses who were once cosmetologists. The training for nurses and cosmetologists is similar in some ways; cosmetologists must learn anatomy and physiology, just as nursing students do. Cosmetologists must also learn a certain amount of medical terminology. Cosmetologists study the structure and function of the head, face, neck, shoulders, and extremities.
There are so many people who are working in jobs they don't like. Many people are bored with the career they have and want to do something challenging and exciting, and gratifying. Many people who worked at the same job all of their adult lives decide to go to nursing school, because they feel they want to do something else with their lives, and they feel they will make good nurses. Many men and women who go to nursing school after having a career in another field feel they have found their calling in life. Sometimes the economy has something to do with career changes. Career changers find new life as nurses, often times, when their place of employment goes out of business. Suddenly, the employed become unemployed, and the former employees have few options to find gainful employment.
Often, career changers find new life as nurses simply because they worked at a job they didn't enjoy. Many men and women work 9 to 5 every week and have weekends and holidays off, but they don't like what they are doing. Some career changers have no background in science, and nursing school is a whole new, and wonderful, experience for them. Most people who go to nursing school do very well in the sciences and go on to graduate, and take their state board exams, to become nurses.

One thing that most nurses have in common with each other is that they genuinely like helping people. As an LPN, you can get a feel for what it might be like to go to a school of professional nursing, because you have already been through LPN school. Not only can you get a feel for what it is like to go to professional nursing school, but you can get a feel for the job that the RN does on a day to day basis.

They want the excitement of emergency department, or they want the excitement of helping to bring new life into the world. Some career changers find new life as nurses, because they know some nurses personally, and feel there is something special about being a nurse.

Nurses rarely get laid off, because there are always hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities that need nurses.
